CANTON, Ohio (WKBN) – For the first time in program history, the Columbiana Girls’ Golf Team has qualified for the state tournament.

The Clippers’ girls’ program has only been in existence since 2012.

The Bulldogs placed third at the District Tournament which was held at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Canton.

Columbiana Girls’ Golf Coach Chad Moreschi says it’s quite a milestone for such a young program.

“I’m extremely proud,” Head Coach Chad Moreschi said.  “We’ve been to Districts three out of the last four years.  We’ve come very close the last two years.  Our Seniors took advantage of their last opportunity.”

The following are individual scores for Columbiana at Districts:
Alexa Tringhese 87
Elise Hammond 88
Hannah Garofalo 91
Ally Moreschi 97
(Shannon Marshburn 101)
Team total: 363

In 2014, the three teams that came out the district all finished in the top-five at state.

“Our girls are very excited.  It’s the bonus round now.  We’re kinda just enjoying getting there.  The district that we come out of in one of the toughest in Ohio.  Teams that come out of there usually do pretty well.  I think we will be in the mix in terms of competition,” Moreschi said.

The 2015 Division II Girls State Golf Tournament will take place on October 16 & 17 at The Ohio State University Gray Course in Columbus.
