WELLSVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – Water has been restored to the village of Wellsville after crews from Buckeye Water worked around the clock to repair and old pipe which ruptured, leaving the village without water for nearly three days.

Buckeye Water Superintendent of Operations Todd Brown said his crews worked 48 hours straight just to fix the issue. He said the problem stemmed from the old age of the pipe, which he estimated was more than 100 years old.

“We put in approximately 20 feet of new pipe where it ruptured,” he said.

On Friday, the Wellsville Fire Station distributed free water to Wellsville residents who were affected by the water main break on the south end of the village.

Walmart in Calcutta made it all possible, by donating free water to the station.

“I think it’s exceptional that they’re doing this. The companies and the people that are involved that are out here resourcing this for us, it’s a great thing,” said Wellsville resident Richie Wells.

Despite not being able to use their water or drink it for nearly three days, residents were optimistic about the situation and said they had adjusted to not having a steady water stream.

“This is just a part of life. You know how the infrastructure is, so it’s just one of those things that happens,” resident Timmothy Mason said.
