ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. (AP) – A last-minute deal between 130 Ellwood City teachers and the school board was reached late Monday evening, just prior to threats of striking on Tuesday.
The teacher’s last contract expired June 30. The district about 35 miles northwest of Pittsburgh has never had a labor-related school cancellation.
Although teachers picketed over a contract dispute more than 30 years ago, no classes were canceled. Teachers threatened to strike in 2006, too, but it was averted by a last-minute deal.
