WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s another trip to Columbus for the Warren JFK Boys Golf team. The Eagles will be making their fourth straight appearance in the State tournament.
No team in Trumbull County history has done that before. This year’s squad includes a couple Freshmen.. Jimmy Graham was the teams top medalist. He’s joined by fellow 9th grader Gannon Fridley. Junior Ryan Theis has qualified each of the last three years… along with senior captain Zach Shoaf.
“I think about how special it is because we have a great group of guys,” Shoaf said. “We’re a team. We’re a family. I mean, we all worked well together throughout this whole season. It was a team effort really to be able to make it down to state.”
Head Coach Jim St. George is thrilled to be heading back to Columbus.
“Enjoy the moment. This a chance in a lifetime for the kids. Of the 216 division three schools, they’re one of 12, so what happens, happens. Once again, it’s just a pleasure to go down there and walk, on the house that Jack built,” he added.
Other team members for Kennedy include: Gannon Fridley, and Nick Macali.
Kennedy isn’t the only boys’ golf team heading to state. The same can be said for Columbiana in Division three. Team members include Jared Wilson, Joe Lucci, Bruce Wiggins, Seth Ross, and Griffin Williams.
In addition, over in Division two, Girard’s Mark Standohar has qualified as an individual competitor.
The 2015 State Golf Tournament takes place this Friday and Saturday at Ohio State University.
