NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) – The New Castle School District is suspending more players and another coach for their role in a brawl at a Friday night football game.
The decision was made to suspend the additional players after reviewing video of the fight between New Castle’s football team and the Central Valley High School team. That brings the total to 13 players and two coaches who have been suspended for the fight.
The district has not named which players or coach have been suspended. New Castle High Head Football Coach Joe Cowart was one of the suspended coaches.
Those players and coaches will have to sit out this week’s Homecoming game because of rules from the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL). The WPIAL is also holding a hearing next Monday between both teams and the officiating crew to get all sides of the story and determine if further discipline is warranted.
The seven players ejected from New Castle and the head coach will have to sit out this week’s homecoming game because of rules from the governing athletic body.
