Poland wins soccer Battle of 224

The Bulldogs held off Canfield, 4-2 Tuesday night.

Poland, OH (WKBN) – The Poland boys soccer team built a two goal lead at halftime and held on to defeat rival Canfield, 4-2 Tuesday at Dave Pavlansky Field.

The Bulldogs got on the board early with a goal by Marcus Trevis, then followed that up with a David Watson goal right before the half to go up 2-0.

Poland made it a 3-0 game with another goal by Trevis. The Cardinals would counter with two goals of their own in the second half, by R.J. Thomas and a penalty kick by Ben Feuer, but in the end it was not enough. Matthew Holsinger also scored for Poland.

Goalkeeper Bryan Montgomery led the way for the winners with 8 saves, while Jeff Joseph had 7 saves for Canfield. Both teams recorded 10 shots on the night.

Poland improves to 9-1-5 overall, while Canfield drops to 9-4-2. The Canfield JV team defeated Poland, 3-0.
