Howland, Ellis run past Niles

The Tigers junior tailback rushed for over 200 yards on the night.

Niles, OH (WKBN) – Howland senior Tyriq Ellis ran for over two hundred yards with two first half touchdowns to power Howland past Niles, 37-20 Thursday at Bo Rein Stadium.

The Tigers got on the board first with a one yard touchdown by Ellis to make it 7-0 early. But later in the first quarter, Niles quarterback Tyler Srbinovich called his own number from 9 yards out for the touchdown. A missed two point conversion attempt made it 7-6 Howland.

Later in the 2nd quarter, Howland quarterback Jake Lester hit Steve Baugh for a touchdown, while Ellis found the endzone from 19 yards out to make it a 20-6 game at halftime.

The Red Dragons would keep it close in the second half, but couldn’t generate enough offense in the end.

Howland improves to 6-2 on the season and host Canfield next Friday, while Niles drops to 3-5 and travel to Jefferson Area next week.
