NORTH JACKSON, Ohio (WKBN) – Jackson-Milton Elementary School students gave back on Thursday by donating their hair.

The students took part in a “Children with Hair Loss” assembly in the elementary school gym. Students learned about the effects of cancer and were given the opportunity to chop off their locks, in the name of charity.

The idea came when Ashley Johnson’s daughters showed interest in donating their hair. Johnson then contacted the school to see if anyone else was interested.

Seven girls committed to grow their hair out a year ago in order to donate it to children with cancer. All the of girls had their hair cut in front of the entire school on Thursday, assisted by New Styles Hair Salon in North Jackson.

“It’s very devastating for them to lose their hair, and so, it’s really important to donate this, to give them a chance to feel normal again,” Johnson said.

The hair was donated to Children With Hair Loss, an organization that makes wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy.
