Jefferson tops Liberty

JJ Henson took a screen pass for Jefferson all the way for a touchdown against Liberty Thursday night as the Falcons topped the Leopards

JEFFERSON, OH (WKBN)-Liberty’s defense hung tough early, holding Jefferson to just a touchdown in the first quarter, but the Falcons dictated the pace of play, topping the Leopards 38-8.

The night didn’t begin well for Liberty as a Leopard botched the opening kickoff, turning the ball right over to Jefferson.

But the Leopards defense hung tough, stopping the Falcons offense and forcing them to turn the ball over on downs.

But the Liberty offense could never get going. A low snap on a punt in the first quarter got away from the Leopards punter which he tracked down in the back of the end zone, then punted the ball just 9 yards which gave Jefferson great field position.

On the ensuing position, Jermiah Knight took a handoff 10-yards around Liberty defenders and into the end zone for the first touchdown of the game.

The Jefferson offense really got rolling in the 2nd quarter. Zach Collins found JJ Henson on a screen pass that went about 35-yards to put the Falcons up 14-0.

Later in the quarter, Knight reached the end zone yet again on the ground to make the score 20-0.

Liberty falls to 2-5 on the year and will host Newton Falls next Friday night.
