GREEN TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A fire destroyed a home at 9348 Youngstown-Salem Road in Green Township on Friday.

Although crews were able to draw water from a nearby pond, soon after firefighters arrived, the intense flames and heat set off rounds of live ammunition that were inside the house. That forced crews to aim water at the fire from their trucks and back away from the scene until the ammo was no longer a threat.

Once that happened, they were able to get the blaze under control.

“We’re going to stick around. We’re going to make sure there’s no more hot spots. The Fire Marshal is going to come and do a little investigation on it, and that’s all I know at this time,” Green Township Fire Lt. Mark Kyser said from the scene on Friday afternoon.
