YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Testing of Mill Creek Park’s Lake Newport is done for the year.

The Mahoning County District Board of Health released its last set of results on Friday. It took water samples for 12 weeks from three originals spots and then added six exploratory sites throughout the Mill Creek Park Watershed.

Only one sample — at Indian Run — had elevated levels of E. coli bacteria.

The Board of Health will now review and analyze all of the results for the park.

“The collection on Wednesday concludes the 12-week testing program. This week’s results are significantly lower than the October 5 and October 7 test results. The Board of Health will now take the time to review and analyze the results in their entirety in order to provide the MetroParks with beneficial data,” said Ryan Tekac, director of Environmental Health for the Mahoning County District Board of Health.

The park board closed all three of the lakes in July, since e. Coli levels climbed past the safety limit.
