Columbiana wins in OT, hands Lisbon first loss

COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) – In a battle between the first and third ranked teams in Division VI: Region 19, the top ranked Columbiana Clippers outlasted the third ranked Lisbon Blue Devils in overtime to help solidify their spot on top.

In the first quarter, the Blue Devils got on the scoreboard first when Josh Liberati hit Austin Rutecki in the endzone to give Lisbon the 7-0 lead.

The Clippers would answer as Jacob Ward pulled down a Mitch Davidson pass for the tying score.

Later, the Blue Devils’ Jason Thompson broke right through the middle of the Clipper defense for a score, pushing Lisbon ahead 14-7.

Later in the half, Rutecki pulled down another touchdown pass, increasing the Blue Devil lead 21-7.

The comfortable lead wouldn’t last as the Clippers stormed back, forcing the game into overtime with the game tied at 28.

In overtime it was the Clippers who picked up the touchdown and escaped their Homecoming game with a big win, handing Lisbon their first loss on the season.

Columbiana (7-1) entered the game in first place in Division VI: Region 19, will travel to Wellsville in week nine.

Lisbon (7-1) entered the game trailing the Clippers, sitting in third place in Division VI: Region 19, and will travel to Leetonia next week.
