5k held in memory of officer with ALS

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – The outpouring of support is truly overwhelming for Sergeant Brian Newhard’s widow and three children.

The former Jackson Township and Mill Creek Park Police officer died of ALS last month.

State troopers put on a 5k walk and run at the Canfield Fairgrounds on Saturday.

Newhard’s wife, Jenny, is amazed at the number of people wrapping their arms around her family and participating in events even though Brian has passed away.

“What else can you say about police officers that step up and help my husband like they’re doing,” she says. “They’re helping my family.”

A spaghetti dinner to benefit the family will be held on Sunday, October 18 at Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine in North Jackson from 12-5 pm. An adult spaghetti dinner is $10.
