NEWTON TWP, Ohio (WKBN) – One man is dead in a mobile home fire in Newton Township early Tuesday morning.
The back bedroom of the man’s home in the Blue Water Manor Mobile Home Park was engulfed in flames when firefighters from five departments arrived at around 3:30 a.m. The Warren Township fire chief said the victim, Samuel Lapolla, 62, lived alone.
Lapolla had a pet dog, which also perished in the fire. No one else was injured.
Newton Falls, Lordstown and Milton Township firefighters also responded to the fire scene on Kings Drive SW in the mobile home park. The home is totally destroyed.
Ashley Nahm lives behind the mobile home. She said she witnessed a big cloud of smoke, and then flames, shoot up into the air, completely engulfing the trailer.
“There was no way to get in or out of that trailer,” she said.
Nahm made the 9-1-1 call and told other families to evacuate. The fire caused minor damage to the mobile homes nearby, but no one else was hurt.
“I mean, it was so quiet, I didn’t think nothing of it until I smelled smoke, and it was already too late,” she said. “I don’t know the guy, but I still want to cry for him, because it’s not something to go through.”
The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the blaze. The trailer park is on Salt Springs Road in the township, close to the Ohio Turnpike.
