Pavlik could face charges in alcohol-fueled pellet gun attack

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – With a case still pending in Trumbull County, WKBN has learned former boxing champ Kelly Pavlik is under investigation for a separate incident involving alcohol.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene said an allegation was made against Pavlik on October 14. A report was taken at the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department from a Boardman man who said Pavlik shot him with a 22-caliber pellet gun outside of his Canfield Township home in August.

“It’s a pretty high velocity round. It’s not a rifle round or a rifle per se,” Greene said.

According to the report, Pavlik, the alleged victim and several others had been drinking when the retired boxer pointed the gun at him. The victim said Pavlik missed him with his first shot. He said Pavlik fired again when his hands were raised, this time hitting him in the arm.

“Right now, we’re investigating it,” Greene said. “We do have a video of it that we’re still looking into. We’re not ready to release that yet.”

This incident is just the latest involving Pavlik.

In April, police said he got into a fight outside of a Foo Fighters concert in Weathersfield. That case is still pending. Then, in June of 2014, the former boxing champ was convicted of driving under the influence after being stopped on the Ohio Turnpike.

At this point, no charges have been filed in this most recent case.

“We’re conferring right now with the prosecutor’s office, trying to figure out what to do with this and if we actually have enough to file charges,” he said.

Pavlik’s attorney, Damian Billak, said he and his client are aware of the allegations, but he declined to comment on the case.
