BOARDMAN TWP, Ohio (WKBN) – The public got a chance to get a first look at a new project for a portion of Western Reserve Road.
The county is spending millions to improve the section of the roadway which lies in both Boardman and Beaver Townships.
Plans call for widening the road from two to three lanes from Hitchcock Road in Boardman to Market Street.
Several intersections will also be improved, as well as better drainage to prevent flooding along Western Reserve near Glenwood Avenue.
This project has been in the planning stages for several years now.
Patrick Ginnetti, Mahoning County engineer, said that the previous administration selected this section of the road to be completed next. After that, the section between Market Street and South Avenue will be focused on.
Actual construction won’t start until at least 2019. The project will cost $6 million and the engineer’s office still needs to secure some of the money.
