YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – One of Youngstown’s finest pieces of history will shine a little brighter now.
The grand ballroom inside Stambaugh Auditorium has received a much-needed renovation. A dedication was held Wednesday night to show off the new space, which took three years to complete.
The kitchen was completely gutted, the entryway was expanded, and the entire ballroom has new lighting.
Stambaugh Auditorium Board member Mark Gasser said the improvements were sorely needed.
“We virtually touched every surface — the ceiling, the walls, the carpeting,” he said. “We took out the old stage. We took out the old dance floor, which had become a hazard because it was literally four inches above the rest of the floor, so people would fall off of the dance floor. So, it was a real safety concern.”
The ballroom is used for various events throughout the year including wedding receptions, fundraisers and business meetings.
Stambaugh Auditorium was listed on the national register of historic places in 1984.
