Five young people charged in connection with central Ohio school threats

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) – Police say an 11-year-old and four other juveniles have been arrested in connection with a string of school bomb threats in central Ohio.

Mansfield authorities say they had arrested three boys and two girls by Thursday evening. Police say the threats over several weeks weren’t connected and apparently snowballed off of one another. Richland County’s prosecutor says the charges include making terroristic threats and inducing panic.

Police say the threats that led to school closures and evacuations were made through texts, phone calls and notes left in school restrooms. The threats were aimed at elementary, intermediate and high schools.

Police said they narrowed down suspected students through school surveillance video and tips from staff who kept an eye on the restrooms where several notes were found.
