Akron city schools inspire possible change in Youngstown

AKRON, Ohio (WKBN) – State Senator Joe Schiavoni is visiting Akron City Schools to get ideas on how to improve Youngstown City schools.

He will be meeting with the superintendent, students and teachers to find out what works when it comes to educating students. This is part of his ‘Columbus to the Classroom’ tour.

Schiavoni says it’s better for law makers to be in the classroom listening to people rather than making decisions without their input.

“It’s a good thing. I think that it empowers the communities that we’re going to see as well because they get the feeling that people do care. Kids get a feeling that legislators care. Teachers get a feeling that people are listening,” he said.

Schiavoni is going to take these ideas and present them to law makers in Columbus in hopes to bring change for the next school year.
