BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Mill Creek MetroParks will be reintroducing a favorite winter pastime this season.
Park visitors will again be able to ice skate, as the existing sand volleyball courts in the Wick Recreation Area will serve as a platform for the winter activity. A bladder will be placed on the court, which when frozen, will allow for the skating.
Aaron Young, executive director of the MetroParks, said it has been a while since skating happened in that area.
“I believe it has been over 10 years since we’ve been able to ice skate at the Wick Recreation Area,” he said. “Now, we have offered ice skating at other venues in the park, but not at the Wick Recreation Area.”
The start of the ice skating will be dependent on the weather, because the ice skating venue will not be supported by a refrigeration system.
