Niles punches ticket to District Final

Niles midfielder Bethany Rasile scored the games only goal as Niles topped West Branch Monday night

NILES, OH (WKBN)-Bethany Rasile scored on a penalty kick in the first half which would prove to be the lone goal of the game, helping lift Niles past West Branch 1-0 Monday night in the Division II Austintown District Semifinal.

The Red Dragons controlled the pace of play for the majority of the game, grabbing several chances to score in the first half but West Branch keeper Kendall Briceland kept the Warriors in the game.

Near the 27 minute mark of the first half, Niles striker Hannah Ward broke through with a chance at goal but was brought down in the box by a Warriors defender. The official awarded a PK and yellow card.

That is when Rasile calmly placed the ball in the lower right corner of the net away from Briceland to give the Red Dragons the lead for good.

The Red Dragons improve to 14-2-2 on the season and will face rival Howland in the Austintown District Final Thursday night at Youngstown State University.
