South Range survives 5 set thriller

The Raiders won the final set, 15-13 to advance to the District Finals.

Salem, OH (WKBN) – The co-ITCL champions battled all night, but it was the South Range volleyball team that prevailed, 3-2 Monday in a Division III District Semifinal.

The Raiders won 25-13, 25-23, 23-25, 21-25, and 15-13. They jumped out to an early lead in the first set, and rallied from a deficit in the second to win by two. But the Golden Eagles didn’t go away, and went on to win the next two games.

Lynnie Ritter led the way for the Raiders with 18 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces, 9 points and 6 blocks.  Emily Moretti added 18 digs, 4 kills, 3 aces and 13 points.  Kalina Wisniewski chipped in with 6 kills, 3 blocks, and one dig in the victory.

It all came down to a decisive 5th set, and the Raiders prevailed 15-13. United’s season comes to an end with an 18-7 overall record.

South Range improves to 19-6 on the season and advance to play 6th seeded Crestview Wednesday in the District Final at 6 PM at Salem High School.
