Lakeview outlasts Struthers, strengthens playoff chances

CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – With both teams on the outside of the playoff picture entering week 10, the Struthers Wildcats and Lakeview Bulldogs met on Friday night, with Lakeview escaping with a 21-20 win and strengthening their hopes for a spot in the playoffs.

With 8:39 remaining in the first quarter, John Estlack put the Bulldogs on the board with a 33 yard touchdown run. A successful extra-point made it 7-0 Lakeview.

Then with just over two minutes remaining in the opening quarter and leading by 7-6, the Bulldogs’ Estlack found the endzone again, this time from 21 yards out to increase their lead to 13-6.

The Wildcats would answer before the half, taking a 14-6 lead into the locker room.

The game remained close in the second half. Trailing 21-14, the Wildcats scored with 5:00 remaining in the game. Down 21-20, Struthers attempted a two-point conversion that came up short.

Lakeview (7-3) entered the game ranked ninth in Division IV, Region 11 and their win put them in good position to pick up a spot in the playoffs with a little outside help.

Struthers (5-5) entered the game ranked 15th in Division IV, Region 11.
