Salem comeback ends West Branch season

SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – Down 14 in the third quarter, the Salem Quakers stormed back to top visiting West Branch 21-14, ending the Warriors hope for a playoff spot and giving Salem their ninth win of the season.

Backed up deep in their own territory, the Quakers committed the game’s first turnover with an interception in the endzone, caught by the Warriors’ Jeremy Gorby giving West Branch the early 7-0 lead.

With 11:36 in the third the Warriors added to their lead on a Robert Lozier 72 yard touchdown pass to increase the West Branch lead to 14-0.

Later in the quarter, the Quakers would get on the board on a Matt Weingart six yard touchdown run, shrinking the Warrior lead to 14-7.

With 8:06 remaining in the game, the Quakers tied things up on a Weingart to Jake Humeniuk 28 yard touchdown pass, tying things at 14.

With just over a minute and a half remaining in the game, the Quakers completed their comeback with another Weingart touchdown pass from 23 yards out. A successful extra point gave Salem the 21-14 lead.

West Branch (7-3) started the week ranked eight in Division IV, Region 11.

Salem (9-1) entered the game ranked sixth in Division IV, Region 13.
