Canfield captures District Title in OT

The Cardinals scored on an own goal less than five minutes into overtime to defeat Poland.

Niles, OH (WKBN) – The Battle of 224 took to the boys soccer field Saturday night, and Canfield came out on top, 1-0 in overtime to capture a Division II District Title.

It was a scoreless game at halftime, with Canfield controlling much of the possession early, but Poland also had their chances. After another scoreless half the game went to overtime.

Less than five minutes into sudden death overtime, sophomore Sam Accordino heaved a long throw in towards the goal that bounced off the Poland keeper and in for the game-winner.

Canfield improves to 13-4-2 on the season and will play Marlington next Wednesday night at 7 PM at Solon HS in the Regional Semifinals.
