Car accident causes traffic lights to go out on 224 in Boardman

An accident in Boardman backs up traffic

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Traffic lights are unoperational at the intersection of Route 224 and Tiffany Blvd. after a two vehicle crash caused them to go out.

The accident occurred Saturday around 5:00 pm, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The press release stated that one of the vehicles, traveling east on US-224, attempted a left-hand turn onto Tiffany Blvd. when it was struck by the other car.

That car reportedly went off the road, hitting a traffic control box.

Temporary stop signs have been placed at the intersection and Boardman PD is assisting with traffic control.

Sgt. Brian Vail wants to warn motorists to be extra vigilant until the light is fixed.

“People just need to be cautious when they approach the intersection. Slow down. If there’s no light, they should be coming to a stop, looking both ways before proceeding through the intersection.”

Both drivers, Florentin Agoston, 42 and Arlen Kralj, 53, were sent to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
