PA Governor signs bill allowing some to opt out of jury duty

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Judges, mothers who are breastfeeding and people over age 74 don’t have to serve on Pennsylvania juries under new state law.

Gov. Tom Wolf on Friday signed the measure that lets the moms and older residents request to opt out of jury duties.

Federal and state judges, including district judges, are automatically excluded.

Backers of the change say most judges who show up for jury duty get sent home anyway, resulting in a waste of time.
