Valley firefighters ‘Fill the Boot’ with donations for Akron Children’s

Firefighters help raise money for Akron Children's hospital

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Firefighters all over the area hit the streets on Saturday to raise money for Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Volunteers from the Canfield Fire Department filled their boots with donations at the intersection of Route 46 and Shields Road.

Firefighters were also busy at intersections in Austintown, Liberty, Struthers, Boardman, Warren and Girard.

The event is the start of the Handel’s Ice Cream “Koins For Kids” campaign to raise money for the children’s hospital. This is the campaign’s sixth year.

Conner O’Halloran, Canfield Fire Captain, says it’s great to have different communities and departments involved.

“It’s a good feeling, especially because all the money we raise stays in the Valley,” he said.

Over the last five years, firefighters, schools and corporate sponsors have raised more than $200,000.
