YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A car ran off the road and crashed into a ditch Monday afternoon on Youngstown’s northeast side, according to police.

A Youngstown Police officer said the man driving the car, who is 48, suffers from diabetes and narcolepsy. He reportedly passed out and lost control of his car, crashing near the intersection of Liberty Road and Bott Street around 3:15 p.m.

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the roof of the van to remove the driver.

No one else was in the car, and the driver was taken to St. Elizabeth’s hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer confirmed that the man involved in the crash is from Youngstown.
