Mahoning County agency’s Pets for Vets gets reboot

The Pets for Vets program in Mahoning County will run again for Veterans Day.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Animal Charity Humane Society is rebooting their program Pets for Vets for Veterans Day.

Veterans get a 50 percent discount on the adoption fees and some other benefits including free rabies shots for life for the pet they adopt.

Animal Charity Board President Mary Louk says this isn’t just good for the animals, the veterans also gain companionship.

“It is difficult for them to talk to people and having a furry friend that just loves them for them is invaluable. So many of our dogs are just as traumatized as them and together they can heal,” Louk said.
