Mahoning County Engineer’s Office preparing for winter weather

Crews topped off the big salt 'dome' at the Engineer's facility on Youngstown's west side.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Mahoning County’s Engineer said he hopes that his crews are prepared for the winter ahead, and at a much lower price.

On Wednesday morning, crews topped off the big salt ‘dome’ at the Engineer’s facility on Youngstown’s west side.

This week, the department received about 2,000 tons of road salt — close to 200 truck loads — filling this location, as well as two other outposts around the county.

Engineer Pat Ginnetti said this year’s price was around $60 per ton, roughly a third of what his office had to spend last year.
