YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Canfield woman’s efforts to promote awareness in a particularly deadly form of cancer were recognized Thursday morning by the Mahoning County Commissioners.

They presented a proclamation to Nicole Billak during their weekly meeting Thursday.

Two years ago this month, Nicole’s sister, Ronnette, died — just seven months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Since then, Nicole has held a number of events to increase awareness in the disease, as well as raise money for continued research.

The proclamation comes before World Pancreatic Cancer Day, which is next Friday.
