Salem tops Braves, moves on

The Quakers held on to their 7-0 halftime lead to defeat Indian Valley, 21-6 Saturday.

Gnadenhutten, OH (WKBN) – The Salem football team used strong defense and a balanced offense to take down Indian Valley, 21-6 Saturday in the Division IV Region 13 Quarterfinals.

It was a defensive battle in the first half, until Salem put together a drive with just over a minute left, sparked by a long pass from Matt Weingart to Jake Humeniuk. A few plays later, the Quakers punched it in on a 2 yard touchdown pass from Weingart to D.J. Pullie with just 6 seconds left in the half.

The Quakers extended their 7-0 lead in the 3rd quarter on a touchdown catch by Humeniuk. Then late in the 4th, Weingart would ice it away on a 27 yard touchdown run and the Quakers went on to win 21-6 and advance to the second round.

Salem improves to 10-1 on the season and will play Steubenville next Saturday.
