Sen. Brown introduces legislation to protect soldiers’ finances

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – There is no bigger insult to our active military men and women than coming home from deployment to find their credit has tanked because of a missed payment or identity theft.

Senator Sherrod Brown has co-introduced legislation and is urging the Department of Defense to take action, ensuring our service members’ finances and credit reports are protected during deployment.

Brown says the military does not do a good enough job informing those who are deployed of services available, such as Active Duty Alerts and security freezes.

“It is up to the bank and military that communication is there so they don’t lose their home or get a bad credit rating,” he said.

More than 2,000 Ohioans are currently deployed.
