Western Reserve stung by Kirtland Hornets

Western Reserve fell to Kirtland 49-0 in the Division VI playoffs Saturday night.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Kirtland topped Western Reserve 49-0 in the Division VI playoffs Saturday night.

On their first offensive play, the Blue Devils fumbled, which led to a one yard touchdown by Joey Bates.  The 2-point conversion made it 8-0.

Their next offensive possession ended in a blocked punt, and another short field in Kirtland.  Bates later scored on another one yard touchdown.  Bates finished the game with three touchdowns and 51 rushing yards.

Kirtland’s Vinny Matticoli led all rushers with 95 yards.

Ed Smith led the Blue Devils on the ground with 43 rushing yards.

Western Reserve ends the season with a record of 8-3.  Kirtland improves to 10-1, and advances to face Brookfield in week 12.
