2015-16 Heartland Christian Lions’ Girls’ Basketball Preview

Season in Review
Despite losing their first 14 games, the Lady Lions’ won two games in a week by defeating American Spirit Academy (34-28) on January 22 and then Heritage Christian (32-21) on January 29.

Ginny Burgess put together her best performance of the year in a loss to Southern in February. Burgess scored 17 points, snagged 11 rebounds while dishing out 5 assists and stealing the ball away from the Lady Indians five times. Avery Pennington began the 2014-15 season by scoring in double-figures in four of her first five games. She also was able to haul down ten rebounds or more in three of her final eight outings.

Key Returnees
Quite a bit of experience returns for Heartland Christian. Seniors Avery Pennington (7.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg), Olivia Hostettler (4.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg), and Rachel Crawford (3.7 ppg) all return to the fold after playing in each game as a junior. Junior Kacey Cusick averaged 3.1 points and 2.6 boards in 17 games a year ago. Elizabeth Curtis was able to put together a stat line of 1.7 points and 2.9 rebounds as only a freshman.
