2015-16 Struthers Wildcats’ Girls’ Basketball Preview

Season in Review
The Lady Wildcats began the 2014-15 campaign with a 4-4 record as of the first of the year. Coach John Grandy’s bunch finished the regular season strong by posting wins in ten of their final fourteen games. In the Sectional Final, Southeast handed Struthers a 70-33 setback to end their season at 14-9.

Preshus Brown led Struthers in scoring (14.4) and rebounding (9.5) last year. Brown posted a three-game stretch in January (against Howland, Campbell, and Jefferson) where she scored 74 points, hauled down 34 caroms and had 11 steals. She finished the season with only once posting less than 6 rebounds in a game. Aracelli Perez scored a career high 18 points in their season opening win over Jefferson (67-41) as she had the distinction of having a 10-steal game (vs. Niles) and a 10-assist game (against Campbell).

Key Returnees
Senior sharpshooter Caitlin Kane returns after making 50 three-point shots (50-150, 33%) during the regular season last winter. Kane averaged 11.0 points per game and 2.5 assists. Khaylah Brown (8.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg), as a freshman, had 9 games with 10 points or more and 9 games with 10 rebounds or more. Torre Smrek also returns after scoring 4.2 points and snagging 6.8 rebounds as a sophomore.

…Last season, Struthers did not win a playoff game for the first time since 2006. The Lady Wildcats won 20 post-seasons matchups over the course of the previous eight campaigns which included a pair of trips to the regionals (2010 & 2011).
