Prison for Cleveland area doc who got drugs for strippers

CLEVELAND (AP) – A former northeast Ohio doctor is heading to prison for prescribing painkillers to strip club dancers and their friends in return for money and sexual favors.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports 29-year-old Gregory Ingram was sentenced Tuesday to one year in prison. He pleaded guilty in August to 48 counts of illegal dispensing of a controlled substance.

Prosecutors say he wrote prescriptions for more than 1,700 tablets of oxycodone and morphine over a two-year period while working as an emergency room doctor in Akron. Court documents indicate he passed out the pills while going through a divorce.

Authorities say Ingram came clean because one of the dancers tried to blackmail him. Ingram surrendered his medical license after going to police over the blackmail claims.
