2015-16 West Branch Warriors’ Girls’ Basketball Preview
Head Coach: Walt DeShields, 11th season at West Branch (177-64 overall)
Record: 27-2 (14-0), 1st place in Northeastern Buckeye Conference

Season in Review
For the third time in school history, the Lady Warriors won the regional championship en route to advancing to the Division II state finals with a 27-2 record and a #5 ranking. West Branch also claimed their third straight NBC league championship, which happens to be their 12th in the last 20 years.

Four-year starter Melinda Trimmer (YSU) played in all 107 games on the varsity level scoring the most points in school history (1748) as she took home Player of the Year honors in the NBC and in Division II. Pavin Heath also was a four-year starter who made the most three-pointers in a career (154) and in a season (57).

Key Returnees
Seniors Kaylee Manning (9.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg) and Catie Hahn (3.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg) lead the group back after losing four key contributors. Emma Rankin (9.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Natalie Zuchowski (10.3 ppg, 9.4 rpg) started as a sophomore and freshman last year respectively.

As coach Walt DeShields points out that his defensive philosophy will not change “(The) lockdown defense is the cornerstone of our program. We will continue (to) look for our girls to work hard and be tough on the defensive side of the ball. It’ll be interesting to see how this team comes together on the offensive end as (we) lost two of the school’s all-time scorers (Melinda Trimmer and Pavin Heath). (They’ll) need to embrace working hard every day and being unselfish to be successful. “
