Lakeview, Howland team up to fight hunger

Howland and Lakeview schools came together to raise money and donations for the food pantry.

CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Students from two Trumbull County schools came together to raise money and food for area food banks.

Howland High School and the Lakeview School District helped raise $8,000 for the Second Harvest Mobile Pantry and the Backpack program in Trumbull County.

It was all a part of the Ameriprise National Day of Service. Tom Shortreed with Shortreed and Associates says it’s great to see the students and other people in the community come together to help those in need.

“It is awesome. There is so much negativity in the world when we are talking about youth culture. It is positive to see youth come together for a good cause,” Shortreed said.

The food bank distributed 9.5 million pounds of food in 2014, including 2 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.
