Sharon wins big; Tomko throws 5 TD’s

Andrew Tomko threw 5 touchdowns in the opening half as the Tigers rolled to a big victory.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – Sharon made it look easy as they pushed past Harbor Creek 59-0 in the District 10 Class AA Quarterfinal this afternoon from the Greyhounds’ Stadium.

To begin the scoring, the Tigers’ Ziyon Strickland caught a 54-yard touchdown reception from Andrew Tomko to take a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Jonathan Williams then caught a 33-yard touchdown on Sharon’s next possession. Sandwiched between Tomko touchdown tosses was a 26-yard field goal (26 yards) by Noah Nichols. Tomko finished the first quarter scoring by finding Jordan Wilson on another touchdown strike, this time for 65 yards.

In the second quarter, Tomko wasn’t done as he once again found Strickland on a 30-yard touchdown toss to open the game up to a 31-0. Da’mon Rudolph ran in the first score of the game from 15-yards out to extend the advantage to 38-0. Late in the quarter, Tomko threw his 5th touchdown – to Williams on a 11-yard pass to take a 45-0 lead into the intermission. In the first half, Andrew completed 12 of 18 for over 300 yards.

The Tigers were at it again in the third quarter as Wilson scampered 16-yards for the score (52-0). Finally, in the opening minute of the final frame, J.P. McComb passed a touchdown to Frank Shaffer to end the scoring at 59-0.

Sharon improves to 9-1 as the Huskies drop to 6-5. The Tigers will now await to see who they will face the semifinal round – either Fort LeBoeuf (7-3) or Greenville (7-3) who play tonight at Edinboro University at 7 pm.
