Jim and Ellen Tressel donate $1 million to Youngstown State

YSU President Jim Tressel

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Jim and Ellen Tressel have donated $1 million to help working students on the Youngstown State University campus.

The YSU president and his wife created an endowment fund that will help students with employment opportunities. The gift will be made to the Ellen and Jim Tressel Student Work Opportunity Endowment Fund.

The Tressels say research shows students with part-time campus jobs are more successful in the classroom. They wanted to create a fund that will impact those students’ futures.

Past gifts given by the Tressels were to Watson and Tressel Training Site — an indoor track and field — and to the YSU Recreation Center.
