2015-16 Bristol Panthers’ Boys Basketball Preview

Season in Review
The Panthers closed out the regular season as the Northeastern Athletic Conference Stripes Division champion for the fourth consecutive year. Bristol finished strong by winning thirteen of their final fifteen games entering the post season. Coach Craig Giesy’s bunch won the sectional championship before falling to Warren JFK in the District Semifinal, 48-27.

Junior Alex Jones garnered Division IV All-State honorable mention following a season which saw #21 shoot 33.3% (20-60) from beyond the arc and 71.9% (69-96) from the charity stripe.

Key Returnees
The Panthers return their leading scorer from a year ago in Alex Jones. He averaged 15.7 points, 4.0 assists and 7.9 rebounds as a junior. Bristol also will have back 5’8 sophomore Tommy Donadio, who averaged 10.9 points as a freshman. Phil Aliberti also will be back after he led the team in steals with 2.4 a game. With eight letter winners returning, the Panthers will look to use their speed on defense to generate offense after losing significant size from a year ago.

Northeastern Athletic Conference Stripes Outlook
Bloomfield The Cardinals last winning season was in 2009-10 (16-6). Can they start to make some momentum towards that mark again this season?

Bristol Alex Jones was an absolute monster last year registering 15.7 points and 7.9 rebounds. He’s joined by a nice collection of upper classmen who have experience. The Panthers will be solid once again.

Lordstown The Red Devils have put together back-to-back 13 win seasons in a row. Can they make the leap into the championship discussion?

Newbury In their second season in the NAC, the Black Knights will attempt to improve upon last year’s 7-15 mark.

Southington Tommy Hall, Eric Wilson, Travis Lehman and Austin Karr headline a talented group which coach Michael Karr has every right to be excited about.

…Bristol has won just one playoff game over the last two years while they were seeded 4th in both tournaments. The Panthers have won two sectional championships in the last six years.
