FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WPLG) – The Broward Sheriff’s Office said a Spirits Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after a passenger made a bomb threat Thursday night.
Deputies said the Airbus 320 had 92 people on board.
A bomb squad is investigating, but deputies reported the plane is in a secure area with no apparent threat detected.
“Spirits Airline Flight 596 from Fort Lauderdale to Minneapolis returned to the gate this evening after 15 minutes in the air,” the airline said in a statement. “The flight crew decided to return to the gate because of a security issue on board. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is now on scene and will be in charge of any law enforcement investigation at the airport.”
No other details were immediately released.
