Mahoning County Court recognizes National Adoption Day

The Mahoning County Court celebrated National Adoption Day on Friday.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning County Courthouse was a full-house on Friday, as Probate Judge Rob Rusu presided over a pair of adoption hearings in observance of National Adoption Day.

The judge told the crowd at the courthouse that there is currently about 40 children awaiting adoption, but half of those have no plans ready for final placement. The children who are not adopted, he said, often cost taxpayers $300,000 each over their lifetimes for various social services.

Last week, Trumbull County celebrated its Adoption Day with a ceremony at the Trumbull County Court, in which three families finalized their adoptions.
