OVI checkpoint set for Saturday night in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – An OVI checkpoint is set for Saturday night in Youngstown between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Youngstown Police Department will work in conjunction to conduct nearby saturation patrols for the checkpoint on Fifth Avenue near Fairgreen Avenue.

This past week, troopers arrested five foreign nationals on the Ohio Turnpike, who had a machine to duplicate credit cards.

First News asked Sgt. Bret Henderson if this checkpoint will have any extra focus on finding these types of machines.

“Certainly during an OVI checkpoint, you have the opportunity to look inside vehicles. But our main focus for the checkpoint is detecting impaired drivers and removing them from the road, as well as educating the motoring public with the message that there is an OVI checkpoint,” he said.

OSP would like to remind drivers not to drink and drive, and to have a designated driver if they plan on consuming alcohol.
