Cat owners are encouraged to spay and neuter before winter

An animal rescue group from Warren is encouraging pet owners to spay and neuter before winter.

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Trap Neuter Return, an animal rescue group in Warren, is focused on getting cats fixed before the winter.

They just received a surprise to help them out: a new van, given to the group by an anonymous donor.

They brought it to the Pet Supplies Plus at Eastwood Mall on Sunday to encourage pet owners to spay or neuter.

The president of TNR, Corky Stiles, says the new van will allow them to take 50 to 75 cats at a time to be spayed or neutered. That’s important as we head into the colder months.

“If you don’t get them done in the winter, if they’re outside cats and they have kittens, the likelihood of them surviving is very slim to none. You want to get them at the beginning of winter before they get into this cycle of reproducing,” Stiles said.

Trap Neuter Return is offering spay-and-neuters for outside cats at a cost of $8, and that includes a rabies shot.
