Downtown YMCA celebrates 100 years

The YMCA in downtown Youngstown celebrates its 100th year anniversary.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown YMCA celebrated its 100th year anniversary Sunday night.

Current and former guests enjoyed food as they shared memories through old movies and photos.

Central Branch Director Mike Shaffer says the Y has definitely been through tough times, but the community keeps them going.

“We didn’t raise membership rates for a while because the community couldn’t afford it. Even though it was hard for us to operate.”

Shaffer says there are plans to start renovating the building next year.
