Salem PD arrests suspect minutes after armed robbery

Andrew Duko, suspect in robbery

SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – Salem police arrested an armed robbery suspect on Sunday just ten minutes after the incident occurred, according to Det. Dave Talbert.

Andrew J. Duko, 24, is being held in Columbiana County Jail, charged with aggravated robbery of the Smith Express Mart on E. State St.

According to an employee who was working at the time, Duko entered the store wearing a scarf over his face. She says he demanded that she give him “all the money.” When she opened her register, she says he reached over the counter and took $320.

Duko allegedly used a semi-automatic handgun.

Police found him on Hawley Ave. shortly after receiving the call around 3:45 Sunday afternoon.

Duko has a pending trafficking charge in a drugs case and is on probation for a 2014 theft conviction.
