Former principal admits to explicit chat with purported teen

STREETSBORO, Ohio (AP) – A former Ohio school principal has admitted to sending sexually explicit messages online to an adult posing as a 13-year-old girl.

Cleveland.com reports 35-year-old William Basel pleaded guilty Monday to attempted importuning. The Twinsburg man was sentenced to one year of probation and must register as a sex offender for 15 years.

Authorities say a 19-year-old Texas woman reported having a sexually explicit online chat with him in March. Investigators say Basel sent a nude photo of himself to the girl and asked her to “hook up” with him.

Basel was fired from Henry Defer Intermediate School in Streetsboro after being arrested in June.
